Here’s my new Printable! Sunset Bird: a Step by Step guide for colouring. This is a page to practice blending with coloured pencils. This exercise focus on how to create a gradient effect by mixing colours. This is a simple, quick guide with step by step instructions.
Follow the directions to get a similar result or be creative and change the rules! I suggest that you print at least two copies, complete the first one following the guide and then create your own colour combinations. It’s fun to compare the results and find out your favorite version!
I hope you enjoy this new Printable! Please click in the link to download.
If you don’t have the exact pencil colour listed above, try to use tonalities that are similar. I coloured my Sunset Bird example with Polychromos Faber-Castell. The background was done with Mungyo Gallery Soft Pastels and little details with a white Posca Pen.
Here’s a list of the pencils I used:
- Light Blue: Light Cobalt Turquoise 9201-154
- Red: Alizarin Crimson 9201-226
- Dark Pink: Fuchsia 9201-123
- Violet: Violet 9201-138
- Cobalt Blue: Cobalt Blue Greenish 9201-144
- Pink: Pink Madder Lake 9201-129

To print my charts and drawings, I use card stock (110 lb – 199g/m2), acid free, letter size (8 1/2″ x 11″ – 21.6 cm x 27.9 cm). I also try to look for paper that is green friendly and is part recycled. Here some examples of card stock: Neenah, Springhill and Neenah Cardstock.
